Focuses on connecting with international organizations and forging effective and mutualistic partnerships. This includes not only staying up to date in partners’ activities and identifying potential collaborations but also staying up to date on changes in regulations abroad. Projects in collaboration with partners range from capital projects such as the building of a sewing center in a community to a service event such as a Menstrual Awareness Day.

I am an Optimization Engineer in the ExxonMobil Research & Engineering company. As an optimization engineer, I build models that take in multiple-input variables and calculate the optimum objective function for profit. Overall, I am acquiring a variety of skills with a specific focus on collaboration, leadership, technology (Aspen, python...), and other things. Every single day, I get to work with experts from different parts of the company around the world.

I am part of the hydro-processing group under the ExxonMobil Research and Engineering (EMRE) umbrella. I am using a computer tool called Series Oriented lumping (HDPSOL) to tune kerosene data with the goal of building a catalyst file with a better dataset. The will both allow the production of the right spec and meet the objective of Ultra Low Sulfur Concentration (ULCS)

In summer 2018, I completed my second CO-OP term with LyondellBasell in Clinton IA (CLO). LyondellBasell is ranked the third best chemical company in the nation and achieves a yearly turnover of around 44 billion dollars. Having over 13,000 employees and present in multiple locations, LyondellBasell is one of the largest plastic, chemical and refining companies in the world; It leads the industry in the production of different types of polymers. The Clinton site (CLO) is known for its success in Cost allocation and Safety; CLO was named the safest LYB site this year. The mission of this company is both to deliver industry-leading performance by safely and reliably delivering high quality products to customers and to be a responsible neighbor in the communities it operates. During my time at CLO, I worked as a production engineer in the high density unit (HDPE). My job consisted on monitoring day to day production while working on projects both in high density and low density units. I also participated in numerous meetings and company training events and learned pertinent skills. I had the opportunity to volunteer in community and company social events during which I learned a lot about the company culture. I took the opportunity to learn from all and anyone I can. For instance, I made sure to spend time daily with operators asking them questions about their work and learning the unit. They taught me with alacrity and enthusiasm and I truly appreciate all of them. I also spent some time in the lab asking question about how things work; I learned how they measure the melting index of our products and also how they measure the density of the produced pellets.

I did a Co-op tem with LyondellBasell at their refinery (HRO) in Houston, TX. During my time at HRO, I worked as a process engineer in the sulfur unit. My job consisted on monitoring day to day production while working on projects in the sulfur unit. I also participated in numerous meetings and company training events and learned pertinent skills. I had the opportunity to volunteer in community and company social events during which I learned a lot about the company culture. I took the opportunity to learn from all and anyone I can. For instance, I made sure to spend time daily with operators asking them questions about their work and learning the unit. They taught me with alacrity and enthusiasm and I truly appreciate all of them.

Envision is a national recognized company that give high school and younger students the chance to explore professional careers. As a student counselor employee for envision, my role was to care for scholars and help them feel comfortable at all time during their stay. By building a mentor-mentee relationship with them, i taught them the importance of Focus and motivated them using personal stories to work diligently and persevere through their dreams.

As an Atlantis fellow, I was given the opportunity to shadow doctors abroad in a course of three weeks at Gennimates Hospital. Over the time I spent in Athens, I clocked 156 hours including emergency hours at the hospital and watched 56 surgeries in many specialties. For instance, in plastic, I was able to see different types of transplants and reductions; In General Surgery, I saw lot of tumor and bladder removal. In orthopedics, I saw a foot amputation, and a knee replacement. My favorite surgery was a facial transplant and reconstruction in plastic: a man suffered facial paralysis and could not talk; in order to recover oral functions, the surgeon removed some of his thing muscles and transplanted it in his paralyzed face, and then reconstructed his face by connecting the nerves and blood vessels. The man should be able to recover his oral functions in a year with enough physical therapy.

This class is called FIG (Freshman Interest Group). As a teacher assistant, my goal was to both help the teacher in the classroom and to also help the students understand what is being taught in class. The goal of the class is to help student feel less intimidated about the largeness of the school and encourage them to make friends in a smaller environment,
