Biodiversity, which refers to the variety of plant and seed species in an ecosystem, emerged as a central factor in sustainable agriculture. I learned that diverse ecosystems provide a rich source of genetic resources that can be harnessed to develop new crop varieties, enhance resistance to diseases, and improve overall crop yields.One of the significant aspects of my internship was the focus on gene preservation and conservation for seed species. This practice involves safeguarding the genetic resources of various plant species, both in their natural habitats (in situ) and through controlled environments (ex situ). This preservation ensures that we retain the fundamental components needed for future advancements in agriculture.Furthermore, my hands-on experience involved contributing to research, collecting data, and managing inventories of seed and plant species. This meticulous work plays a vital role in cataloging and conserving these genetic resources. The data and inventories I helped maintain are essential references for ongoing agricultural research and breeding programs.In summary, my time at the research institute provided me with a deep understanding of how biodiversity underpins successful agricultural practices. The preservation and utilization of diverse genetic resources are pivotal in shaping the future of agriculture, promoting food security, and enhancing our ability to adapt to changing environmental conditions.
