How and Why, these questions have popped up in my mind ever since I can remember. I’ve always wanted to know and learn more, especially in the field of Biology. The questions about why organisms exist and do what they do, and how they came about always intrigued me. So, when I found about DNA and how it is the literal blueprint of an organism, I knew that this is what I want to work with.Now here I am, A bachelor of Science in Genomics and Molecular Genetics, learning in detail about the fundamentals of DNA and the genome of organisms. My curiosity led me to my University’s Shark conservation lab, where I became an Undergraduate research technician, working closely with Sharks and their DNA. Working in a lab taught me a lot of things ranging from techniques like PCR, DNA extractions, Electrophoretic gels, DNA sequencing, Cloning, etc.; to work skills like teamwork, organization, time management, attention to detail and many more. Getting good sequences after extraction, amplification, and purification of DNA has always given me the joy of a successful challenge, and getting bad sequences has enabled me to deal with failure and given me the opportunity to learn from and correct my mistakes. My college life has made me realize that there is too much to learn for one lifetime, and that my thirst for knowledge shall never be satiated, yet I am thankful for the fact that there will be no limit to what I can learn. To further my education and knowledge, I have joined the masters program at NYU's GSAS, focusing on recombinant DNA technology. I continue wanting to learn more about DNA and genetic modifications, and use that knowledge to improve human life. I’ve currently set my eyes on fields like Gene Editing, Human Immunity, and stem cells, however, I’m willing to take any opportunity to boost my understanding of Biology.

Projects include- Mystery Shark (2019-2020) which included extracting and amplifying DNA from unpreserved Shark Jaw specimen to identify species; and Team MHC (2020-current), which Includes extracting and amplifying MHC (MHC I, MHC IIα, and MHC IIß) loci from litters of Carcharhinus plumbeus (Sandbar sharks) with multiple sires to study inheritance of the alleles.
