I am a hard working individual who maintains a high professional manner in a school environment. I am an adaptable person with more than 8 years of experience in attending to pupils with learning difficulties and providing curriculum support. I feel this has enhanced my confidence and brought out the characteristics such as using my own initiative, remaining calm and good humored under pressure. I have a unique ability to see where students need support and I know that strategies that will work with the student/students with specific needs. I believe that I can support and encourage young learners to achieve their full potential. I am highly motivated at all times e.g. when I see my students succeeding, it makes me want to push them even further so they can achieve their set targets. I have ability to work independently and take decision when appropriate for example during interventions; I set small targets for the students as per their abilities, so they can learn and progress accordingly. I have good communication skills and my knowledge of three languages such as English, Punjabi and Hindi, all three have helped me to work effectively with EAL pupils. Being a Teaching assistant my main aim is to support students not only with their academic needs but also with their emotional development. I believe that students learn better and are much happier if their emotional needs are also addressed. I have been undertaking ELSA ( emotional literacy support assistant) training. This training has given me the knowledge and skills to deliver interventions to support the students who are experiencing additional emotional needs. My role as an ELSa is to plan and support sessions to facilitate the students in developing new skills and coping strategies that allow them to manage social and emotional demands more effectively. I deliver these interventions on individual basis and also in small groups. These interventions cover a wide range of emotional needs such as: - recognising and understanding emotions, building self-esteem, social skills, friendship skills, anger and behaviour management, dealing with Loss and bereavement, relaxation/ coping techniques and transition/ change.I liaise well with teachers and the other teaching assistants, to support a team environment. I have built a good relationship with the parents so we can work together to provide the best support to the individuals. I have acquired a number of CPD certificates to improve my knowledge and skills so I can carry out my role effectively.
