My post-veterinary graduate work was in Veterinary Preventive Medicine involving immunology, virology, and epidemiology that had impacts reaching as far as the New Zealand Ministry of Agriculture as well as Adelie and Emperor Penguins in Antarctica. I have quite a bit of experience working with a wide variety of wildlife including Mountain Lions, Black Bears, and Desert Big Horn Sheep. I have a particular interest in game birds and parrots, but have worked with Ostriches and Emus. I have developed a special interest and skill in animal behavior consulting.I also have extensive training and experience in supervision and management in private industry, federal government, and corporate practice.Currently Interim Director of Laboratory Animal Medicine, and University Attending Veterinarian, in addition to my duties as Clinical Laboratory Animal Veterinarian. Current member of University of Nevada-Reno IACUC Committee. Recently surgically placed rumen fistula cannulas in a group of beef steers for new research by the Universities Agriculture Nutrition department. Assist and participate in stem cell research with hemophilia and diabetes models.I currently assist and train investigators with in-vivo 2100 digital ultrasonography, IVIS luminescent and fluorescent imaging, digital radiography, and microscopic level laser imaging.Registered with American Endurance Race Association and provide veterinary care and supervision for several local Endurance Horse rides.

    As a stipend supported Graduate Research Associate, was involved in research, documentation, and course work for thesis The Heat Lability of Infectious Bursal Disease Virus (IBDV) leading to the completion of a Masters of Veterinary Preventive Medicine Degree. •The New Zealand Ministry of Agriculture cited this work with IBDV during the drafting of their national agriculture and livestock biosecurity document. •Maintained five different strains of IBDV, quantified the virus by titering in 96 well micro-titer plates, and maintained BGM-70 mammalian cell cultures used for growth and recovery of the virus. •Performed rt-pcr and agarose gel immunodiffusion (similar to DNA fingerprinting) to confirm the identity of different viral strains. •Performed rabbit surgery to create a collection system for IBDV hyper-immune serum that was purified to obtain monoclonal IgG. With the IgG, designed and used different ELISA tests to screen penguin serum for exposure to IBDV. Extracted and propagated IBDV virus from cooked and uncooked poultry tissues. •Used experimental findings and procedures to write, as the primary author, paper that was published in Journal of Poultry Science. Also used this information for official thesis publication and to layout and print a research poster for scientific presentations.
