Registered Nurse- Resource Nurse
Surgery Inpatient and Surgery Step Down Unit. I was the Resource Nurse. I have advanced education in wound and ostomy care and am a wound champion. I have advanced training in V.A.C. Negative Pressure Wound Therapy. I have written hospital policies, worked with surgeons to write order sets and patient pathways, created education packages for new staff, presentations for nursing, and created many opportunities for nursing education presented by surgeons and product reps for my nursing team. I have been a member of many project teams. I was a project co-lead trialling an advanced wound therapy for orthopaedic total joint patients. This project and trial led to the change in practice of post-operative incision management for total joints and had a direct impact on the reduction of surgical site infections in the total joint population.
Interim Coordinator Inpatient Surgery Program
Responsible for the day to day operations of Surgery 3 and SSDU, as well as recruitment and staffing of two Surgical units.
Interim Manager Surgical Inpatients And Surgical Step-Down Units
I was responsible for the 32-bed Inpatient Surgical Unit and 6-bed Surgical Step-Down Unit. I had over 45 direct reports and was responsible for recruitment and retention of staff as well as maintaining staff satisfaction. Following the Studor Practices, and encompassing the vision and values of RVH, I successfully led this team for almost 8 months. I was responsible for adhering to a budget and providing variance reports each month, Leader rounding with staff and patients, service recovery, performance management, building team capacity, team and committee meetings, leading projects, changing processes and maintaining optimal patient and staff satisfaction. This was a great opportunity to expand my leadership role.

Rn- Site Orientation Champion- Project Management
I was responsible for working with the Planning Team of the Hospital to help plan two surgical inpatient units: 1. An Orthopedics and Urology focused Surgical Inpatient Unit and 2. A Surgical Inpatient Unit and Surgical Step Down Unit focused mainly on General Surgery, Vascular, Plastics and Gyne-Oncology. I brought forth ideas and visions for redeveloping two Inpatient Surgical Units and a Surgical Step Down Unit. My role as a nurse allowed me to help plan Inpatient Surgical Units that took into consideration LEAN workflow perspectives as well as work flow of the patient populations. I learned a lot about how many different areas are involved when planning an inpatient unit in a hospital. I was responsible to help plan and set up the units, and then help to move inpatients into and out of the units in a controlled manner without incidence. It was an excellent opportunity and amazing experience.
