The General Audit Chamber of Sint Maarten’s primary task is to audit government and in so doing contribute to the effectiveness, transparency and improvement of government.The General Audit Chamber (GAC) started operations on October 10, 2010, concurrent with the establishment of St, Maarten as an autonomous country within the Kingdom. The General Audit Chamber is considered a High Council of State.The General Audit Chamber checks that government spends public funds and conducts policy as intended. We are required to carry out certain audits, for example the investigation of the annual financial statement of St. Maarten. In addition, we perform compliance, performance and integrity audits.

The Social Economic Council Sint Maarten (“Sociaal Economische Raad”, “SER”) is an independent advisory body to the government of Sint Maarten. The SER advises upon request by one or more Ministers (solicited) or on its own initiative (unsolicited) on all important social economic issues. The SER was established by law (“Landsverordening Sociaal- Economische Raad”) in 2010.The SER consists of representatives of employees’ and employers’ organizations as well as independent experts. The objective of the SER is to achieve a broad concept of wealth in Sint Maarten by offering quality advice and reaching consensus on social economic issues.
