Working on Camel Genomics project:This pioneering study focuses on classifying Saudi Arabian camel breeds based on genomic variability. The project's goal is to understand and preserve breed purity, link phenotypic traits to genomic data, and enhance the genetic understanding of Arabian camels. With an extensive sequencing of camel genomes, this project promises to contribute significantly to agricultural research, and the understanding of camel genetics, while addressing challenges in technical, logistic, and economic spheres. It represents a significant step in realizing the untapped potential of camels through genetic improvement and collaborative stakeholder efforts.

Worked on the first national antimicrobial resistance surveillance platform:Antimicrobial resistance threatens advancement in medicine and responsiveness to dangers of infectious diseases. The project consists of developing a national database to monitor infectious diseases in Saudi Arabia's health facilities, leverage existing data and develop infectious disease diagnosis research. The platform analyzes infectious diseases’ data and reports statistical indicators to policy makers and the World Health Organization (WHO). It monitors reported infections in healthcare facilities across the Kingdom and generates risk assessment reports accordingly. The project will be vital to reduce incidence of infectious diseases and to develop effective vaccines and antibiotics against antibiotic resistant microorganisms. This work is part of an ongoing collaboration between the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and the Public Health Authority (Weqaya), Ministry of Health, Saudi Arabia.

Worked on Date Palm Pest Genomics:This project is a significant part of a larger effort to build a high-quality reference genome sequence for the red palm weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus) and longhorn beetle (Jebusaea hammerschmidti) to support research on control strategies for these two important agricultural pests. This project will use whole-genome sequencing approaches to understand genetic variation in the red palm weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus) in Saudi Arabia. The long-term aim is to use knowledge about genomic variation among red palm weevil populations to support research on control strategies for this important agricultural pest. This work is part of an ongoing collaboration between the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the Department of Genetics, University of Georgia, Athens, GA, USA, King Faisal University, Al Ahsa, Saudi Arabia, and King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
