"The Settlers Online" (TSO) is an online title of the successful "Settlers" series which started in 1993. The closed beta of TSO started in 2010 and very soon, the game became Ubisoft's biggest and most successful free-2-play title. A few month after joining Blue Byte, I took over the position of Worldwide Community Coordinator, organizing the work of all Community Managers & Game Masters. A team of 20 people (10 nationalities) and 130 voluntary Community helpers took care of 14 language versions.The most remarkable moments are 4 weddings of players who met in our game, but also the charity funding for Red Nose Day with over 85.000 euros donated. Community Manager for German instance of "The Settlers Online". The big success lead to 14 game worlds at the end, consisting of 4 servers each with dedicated live chats. In this role, I was also team lead of all German GameMasters and responsible for the overall volunteer management.

In the short time frame at Pixelplaying (insolvent), I took care of the Community Management, supported the executives in terms of Marketing, Tools, payment providers. Thus, the company started using a professional support tool (OTRS) instead of using email clients for support, a professional forum was set up and we created strong bounds with the small, but passionate Community by establishing new bi-directional feedback processes, e.g. for user suggestions.

As a Community member, I was quite active on the game forums. It started with voluntary help, turned into an internship with forum administration and active game design. I gained important first insights into the gaming industry and the free-2-play business model. I administrated the forums and designed features for the browser games "Gondal" and "Quests of Gallendor" until I decided to start my own business with the foundation of my own gaming company Ingenious Entertainment in Cologne, Germany.
