About Dr. Manfred Salvermoser

Right now, as lead scientist at Riedel Filtertechnik, my main interest is in optimizing ambient air discharges in order to deliver the maximal amount of chemically highly reactive species for Air treatment applications. Before that, as physicist in the Ozone R&D Group of WEDECO/Xylem Services, I developed an efficient Vacuum Ultraviolet (VUV) Xenon Excimer lamps which emit 172nm light, in order to investigate ultra pure Ozone generation at extremely high concentrations ( 800g/Nm3) and high pressures.When combined with special phosphors that efficiently shift 172nm to (almost any desired) longer wavelength, these lamps turn into efficient mercury free UVC lamps. These lamps can be used for Hxdroxyl radical based Advanced Oxidation Processes as well as Air, water and Surface UVV and far UVC disinfection. I am also interested in industrial Ozone generation, having developed model descriptions of the Influence of Humidity on Ozone Generation processes (Silent Discharges as well as Photochemically driven) and am working on modelling industrial Corona Discharge Ozone Generators, creating new approaches for Plasma Chemical Water/ Air/ Soil/ Waste Purification. One of my research goals is modeling Silent Discharge plasma generator such that one can design these devices virtually first, predicting all of their relevant properties (Ozone yield etc.) BEFORE having to build and test prototype devices in the lab.I have presented and published several papers in Conferences, Scientific Journals and specialized media together with very prominent Scientists, including the Reference Name in the Ozone community.In my former life I was CSO and Cofounder of UV-Solutions (UVS), a high tech startup and Spin Off of Rutgers University, NJ, USA. At UVS, I developed a novel Xenon Excimer VUV light source and helped raise 550.000 $ seed funding from New Jerseys Economic Development Authority and New Jerseys Commission of Science and Technology.My Specialties are: Plasma Physics, Silent Discharges, Ozone Generation, Plasma Chemistry and its Applications, UV and VUV Light Sources, Ozone and UV disinfection of air, water, soil and surface, PhD in Atomic Physics.
