About Mani Entezami

Mani has 15 years’ experience in research and engineering, including 11 years in condition monitoring, system modelling and signal processing. This includes over 8 years in railway research at the University of Birmingham, working on trackside and on-board monitoring system design for rolling stock and infrastructure. As a research fellow, Mani has a track record of delivering projects and prototypes with high technology readiness levels to railway companies such as Network Rail and High Speed 1. He has demonstrated the use of in-cab IMU for detection of hunting and estimation of the train location within London tunnels for the UK highspeed rail network. He has published high-quality papers and has won several awards at conferences. Mani has developed novel techniques in condition monitoring systems and successfully delivered to rail and wind industries.

  • Smart Power Systems
    Firmware Developer
Smart Power Systems Dec 2007 - Sep 2008
    Houston, Texas, Us
Design, implementation and development of a condition monitoring device for AC power lines, the Smart Event Recorder system; it is employed to log AC line conditions (deviations in voltage and frequency, detection and measurement of spikes and transients) using high-speed Analog Devices microcontrollers and Xilinx CPLD (using C/C++ and VHDL). This enabled the company to examine different faulty power line conditions and select a suitable solution to address the problem.
  • Faratel Company
    Hardware Design
    Faratel Company Dec 2004 - Nov 2007
 Design and development of embedded devices for Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) automation and online condition monitoring. This provides the ability to remotely monitor and control the power and enables the user to receive warnings in critical power conditions such as brown outs and power cuts. Research and development of a UPS interface system for monitoring purposes, using 8-16 bit high-speed microcontrollers, Xilinx CPLDs, LCD systems, SMD elements and USB-Serial-TCP/IP protocols, and programming of embedded devices using languages such as VHDL, C51, HC08, VB, Pascal and ST7. This accomplished new low-cost, reliable and user-friendly products competitive in the market. Design, simulation and assembly of electronic circuits and their PCB prototypes, using Proteus and Protel. Simulations and prototypes used to achieve a better level of trustworthiness of the system to be presented to the market.
  • Tafsirgaran System Ltd
    Computer System Design
Tafsirgaran System Ltd May 2001 - Dec 2004
 Design and implementation of a call monitoring system to send Caller-ID from phone lines to PC serial ports to manage incoming and outgoing calls using C51 Microcontrollers. The product is used in call centres and provides a more flexible and lower cost system compared to the existing products on the market. Testing of condition monitoring software for UPSs in different operating systems including SCO UNIX, FREEBSD, LINUX, WINDOWS, OS2, NOVELL NETWARE and DOS. This improved the software packages’ reliability and user-friendliness. Design and implementation of Novell Netware 4.11 based LAN with diskless clients, reducing thecost for the company by over £200,000. Design and implementation of monitor data switchers between two PCs and a monitor, reducingthe cost for the company by over £20,000.
