I volunteered at the Grupo Puntacuna Foundación in the Dominican Republic. I had the unique opportunity to get a firsthand experience on real field work in projects that involved plantation of mangroves, bee keeping, coral gardening and micro fragmentation, turtle conservation, hydroponic agriculture and the construction of fish hatcheries. This experience not only opened my eyes to critical challenges facing our ocean ecosystem but also to the role of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in promoting environmental awareness through advocacy.
