School of Physics and Astronomy Over these four years I was a class demonstrator and grader for first- and second-year mathematics and third year numerical modelling classes. • I developed my skill to quickly verify issues the students were having with their projects or specific questions, and then provide the correct response such that the students learn, and not just memorise the answer. • While grading I’ve learned how to give detailed feedback and notice mistakes students have been making in their core understanding of the subject.

I was hired to create live lecture demonstrations. They were intended to instruct, inspire and engage students with their learning. My job was to create simulations using C# to be used as a teaching aid. o I learned the importance of being focused on the user’s needs – frequently conversing with the lecturers to ensure we were on the same track. o I created a program that simulated two quantum systems, showing real time effects of quantum mechanics. This allowed the lecturer to showcase effects which students previously thought impossible.

Due to unforeseen circumstances within City Academy’s Physics’ department, their sixth form students were left without a teacher. I was asked to produce and present an intensive crash course.- I learned how to condense vast amounts of information into digestible chunks.

For the majority of the academic year I tutored many students in physics; both at A-Level and degree level.- I developed the skill to gauge the student’s level of understanding, such that my teaching and assigned work was appropriately pitched.- Due to the movement of one of the student’s location, I learned to apply my skills to distance teaching over applications such as Skype and Bitpaper.
