M.I.S Saini has served on IRSE cadre of Indian Railway for 25 years, followed by four years on Larsen & Toubro. He did his B Tech (Civil Engg) with Hons in 1981 securing first position in Punjab University. He has been actively working in the field of Railway, Metro, Road & Underground Construction Sector for the last 35 years and has to his credit several important National projects such as Mumbai Monorail (Director), Delhi Metro, Pir Panjal Rail Tunnel (Northern Railways Project) & Chennani Nashri (Patni Top) Road Tunnel.His strength lies in the field of tunnelling, NATM and Underground Construction of all kinds including Metro, Heavy construction, design with special focus on tunnelling use of TBM, Road header ,D&B and complex construction under sensitive areas with difficult geology under heavy odds and tight targets. Chawri Bazar metro station construction with NATM earned worldwide appreciation and was rated as the best project of the year 2006 by Tunnel & Tunnelling.His experience of handling large MRTS and tunnelling infrastructure projects in an international set-up is an important driving force behind Indus Consultrans. He has visited major tunnelling projects worldwide and has authored several papers on NATM.He was on IRC’s committee for laying down “guidelines for construction & operation of long tunnels”.
