Project title: “Heat Transfer and Cooling Technique Studies for Afterburner Flameholder”The work describes the thermal design of a cooling system for afterburner flame holder, after estimating the heat flux through the flame holder. Sensitivity analysis for parameters affecting the gas side heat transfer coefficient have been studied. Different cooling techniques have been studied and recommended convective cooling for leading edge region and cooling with ribs (turbulence promoters) for rear region. For the leading edge, effect of core inlet Mach number and coolant mass flow rate have been studied and for the rear side, effect of wake temperature and coolant mass flow rate on the metal temperature have been studied. Effects of thermal barrier coating on the metal temperature and coolant mass flow also have been studied. Dry mode CFD analysis is carried out using Fluent-13 and plotted the gas side heat transfer coefficients and compared with estimated value.
