    During my time working at TechnipFMC in the D.N.I cell duties involved the logistical support throughout the facilities, ensuring the relevant departments have key components and equipment at all times (i.e machine shop, weld shop and assembly & test). Tasks included ensuring each job is up to date, making sure all machines are running and that the engineers are supported and provided with the key equipment to ensure coolant levels are maintained. Other tasks involved working in the yard overseeing all materials coming in and out as well as providing security ensuring only authorized personnel gained access to the site.

    Experience of processing and manufacturing wooden panels or SIPS into kits for houses. This involved being proactive across all aspects of the workmanship and applying trade skills to complete finite measure cuttings to specifications with limited tolerances. Having the understanding and knowledge of making the SIPS based kits, the role evolved to travelling across the UK completing a number of projects fitting and building the houses. In total this amounted to 15 houses being built where the role required part project management through the latter builds. The role involved being able to interpret drawings to match exact requirements, working with stakeholders to ensure they are in agreement and being customer centric and responsive at all times.

    After completing a rigorous period of intensive training that required all the skills of a soldier and a strong drive of commitment I was then put straight into an operational unit; the Black Watch. During the period with the Black I undertook three operational postings, two in Iraq and one in Northern Ireland. Notoriously Iraq demanded the most, where your job and role would change on a day-to-day basis and the ability to improvise, overcome and adapt was never more so. A high level of self-awareness was needed and the ability to work as an individual or within a team was potent throughout. My roles in the operational theatre would vary but they would range from setting up Headquarters to carrying out patrols and helping people by providing them food, water and providing technical and base skills so they could help themselves. Working within the Black Watch is very hands on job and the skills learnt during this period will serve me and further careers prospects as well for the future.
