Building a robust and innovative coffee procurement model for FPOs in a smallholder context is crucial for sustainable growth and community empowerment. Through detailed value chain mapping and comprehensive SWOT analysis of the G.K. Veedhi region, we identified key actors like farmers, traders, and the ITDA, and their critical roles in shaping the coffee industry. Our study unveiled the intricate dependencies farmers have on local traders for financial support, influencing their selling practices and overall market dynamics.We explored three procurement models tailored to the unique challenges and opportunities of this region:Lead Farmer Procurement Model - Efficient but high transportation costs.R. V. Nagar Coffee Board Model - Low start-up cost, ideal for quick implementation.Mini Processing Unit Model - High initial investment but offers strong returns with aggressive procurement.Moreover, we recognized gaps within the FPO, particularly in marketing, operations, and accountability. Addressing these gaps through capacity building, technical support, and financial management is essential to unlocking the full potential of the FPO and driving sustained success in the region.The insights gathered highlight the importance of a well-structured procurement model that balances operational efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and community engagement. By focusing on innovative strategies and strengthening the FPO's capabilities, we can transform the coffee procurement landscape in G.K. Veedhi, benefiting farmers, stakeholders, and the broader community alike.

We were a team of six members and had learned about the functioning of FPC at the grass level root we did a rural survey of FPC members and how the FPC is benefiting the farmers and also the advantages and challenges of FPC in terms of procurement and supply chain and we also learnt about FASAL.

I was assigned to a farmer who cultivated paddy, chili, and maize. I had worked with him and it helped me to experience the practical application of 3-year classroom learning.
