Aug 2019 - Jan 2023

Postdoctoral Researcher

Quebec, Canada

• Executed a project to identify novel drug targets involved in drug resistance mechanism in Leishmania (Parasite) using Cosmid sequencing in collaboration with GSK, Drug discovery center, Spain. This facility developed certain active drug molecules developed against Kinetoplastids, which I tested for different Leishmania species using the next generation sequencing approach.• Optimized cell based assays, conducted experiments to develop a work flow for RNA sequencing in my lab to identify new biomarkers involved in antimonial drug resistance in natural field isolates of Leishmania.• Work independently as well as a team member in a collaborative setting. Led and supported 3 research projects. Mentored, trained, and supervised a group of post-graduate, graduate, and undergraduate students.

Graduate Research Assistant

Miami/Fort Lauderdale Area Usa

• My study was primarily focused on understanding the post-transcriptional and post-translational mechanisms of Aquaglyceroporin 1 (AQP1) in Leishmania.• The research project demonstrated that the 3’UTR of AQP1 drives the post-transcriptional regulation of species-specific antimonite sensitivity in Leishmania. This was the first report, which showed that their respective 3’-untranslated regions regulate the stability of AQP1 mRNA in different Leishmania species. My work also demonstrated that the mitogen-activated protein-kinase mediated Leishmania AQP1 post-translational regulation, is facilitated by a lysine at the cytosolic N-terminus. Given that AQP1 is essential for parasite survival, the identification of the regulatory partners of AQP1 will help in the identification of additional molecular targets for future drug development.• Mentored 3 undergraduate students and 1 high school student on a different project “Characterization and cloning of sandfly aquaglyceroporins”, which involved the use Xenopus oocytes as expression system for membrane proteins using microinjection technique.• Managed lab inventory, ordering and annual financial budget planning for the lab.• Published 4 peer reviewed research articles and 1 book chapter.
