Manuel Bouvier is a swiss designer and gem and jewellery dealer. Based in Geneva he started designing in the early 90’s finding that second hand jewellery of high quality had become so scarce and did not fit his client’s taste anymore.From years spent at Cartier between the stone department and the museum, between what the market was producing in fine gems and the legacy of the Cartier period jewellery and objects, he developed a taste for unusual and refined designs.Working also with Marina Bulgari for sometime he learned a certain rigor in designs and fantasy in colours.Using skills of craftsmen in Europe and ancient techniques from India he started to make pieces to present the gems he purchased and still purchases, from expensive gems to old forgotten materials like some jades of unusual shades and chalcedony in hues very much in fashion in the late thirties, spinels, he creates unique pieces clients and friends that have to be wearable understated and not too baroque.Craftsmanship is at the centre of his production: Jewellery has become so widespread, common and very often poorly made that to help and promote old world craftsmanship even at a high cost has become necessary.“It is important to me to try and draw a line between the “jewellery industry” highly mechanised and rational and jewellery in the old sense, marrying stones and materials either in a moment of shared pleasure with a client or, just for pleasure”.Also active in the Fabergé foundation who’s trying to reveal and protect the legacy of one of the most important jeweller of the past century, gathering archives data and records that were blown apart by the revolution of 1917.Located in the heart of historical Geneva his office is a gathering place for gem enthusiasts and collectors.
