About Manuel Delaney

I have always been a huge fan of Photography. Nothing like having an image pull you in as you just stare at it forever. At a Photography show in 2007, the images did just that for me. They pulled me in, they spoke to me, and they made me cry. That was the first time I ever considered putting a camera in my hands. That was the first time I ever though of myself on this side of the lens.THIS SIDE OF THE LENSThe name stuck, and now I am out there hoping to create the most powerful images I can. So much more that goes into Photography than I realized. Anybody can take a picture, but that wasn't good enough for me. I read my instruction booklet over and over. I bought other books and read those. I attended any photo show I could. I would strike up conversations with other Photographers on the street. I even took a free "How to Photograph a Wedding" class because I just wanted to be around it. Watching dvd's, subscribing to photo magazines, classes, school, and just going out to shoot any chance I could. You never stop learning, you never stop improving. To this day I will go back just to review the basics. It makes me smile, I feel like the day I bought my fist camera. It keeps me grounded.Then comes "making money at it." Such a different mind set. Pressure can kill the imagination so quick. I easily fell into this. I really don't know even to this day if I have pulled myself out of this mind set. I know I have never taken that picture that pulls me in, makes me stare at it forever. That is a goal. With that, I have to push myself, find those willing to stand in front of my camera to better myself on this journey. Its scary, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I made my choice. No longer on the outside looking in. I am now on THIS SIDE OF THE LENS!
