I am a first-generation college graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and an Urban Studies Certificate from California State University, Long Beach. I am currently a Merritt Scholar pursuing a Masters degree in Geography, specializing in urban and human geography. My academic and professional focus centers on advancing social and economic justice, with a strong commitment to creating more sustainable and inclusive housing options and policies.I am particularly passionate about culturally inclusive housing solutions, including communal and social housing. My commitment to this work is deeply influenced by my paternal family's history of communal living in a Mexican ejido and my maternal family's long-standing experiences as land reclaimers (historically referred to as squatters) in Mexico. These personal histories, along with my education, have profoundly shaped my views on shared housing and land rights.Since transitioning to a new career path I have worked in my role as a Research Associate at Small World Strategy while working towards my degrees. I work under the Research Director, compiling and reviewing data for environmental, political, union campaigns, and policies. I thoroughly enjoy this work because it offers me the opportunity to learn about different industries, government structures, and corporate policies, while providing insights that help advance social and environmental justice and equity.
