About Manuel Lopez Aranda

As a Distinguished Researcher Professor at the University of Málaga, I am committed to advancing our understanding of learning, memory, and the impacts of neurological disorders, with a specific focus on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). My research investigates how environmental factors—such as infections—contribute to the development of conditions like ASD and Alzheimer’s disease.     •The goal of my research during my period at UCLA (2010 – present) was to determine the possible impact of environmental factors (i.e., post-natal immune activation) and the role of the microglia in the development of autistic phenotypes in a mouse model of Tuberous sclerosis (TSC; a disorder with high prevalence of autism). •Responsible to develop the protocols for the experiments (in vivo and in vitro), carry out those experiments, lead and mentorship a team of 10 undergraduates involved this project, stablish collaboration with different Universities. These collaborations resulted in the publication of several articles, some of which I first-authored. •Responsible of writing grants, analyze data and writing internal reports and manuscripts.•Present findings at departmental and international meetings.
