Profile bio

About Maoi Arroyo

I don't have a job. I have passions that I happen to get paid for. I only do one thing - I enable people to change their world. I do this through the businesses I've founded and invested in, through the students I've taught and mentored, the organizations which I volunteer at, and through my public speaking. To date, I've developed 5 policies for the Philippine government, assisted in the drafting of 5 bills (one of them became the Technology Transfer Act of 2009), facilitated over $3.5M in biotech investments, trained over 17,000 aspiring entrepreneurs, and created 3,500 jobs in the poorest parts of the Philippines.I'm a startup junkie who believes in relentless execution and the greatness of the Filipino people. You might think it's natural for everyone to love the country of their birth, but that's not always the case in the Philippines. Colonial mentality and a lack of role models who walk the proverbial talk have made most Filipinos jaded. I think all of them are wrong, because the grass is greener where you water it. I've put my time and money where my mouth is.After 15 years of high-velocity decisive business leadership and catalyzing the cacophony of the Philippine innovation ecosystem, I've co-founded Ignite Impact. Ignite is the first impact investment fund focused exclusively on eradicating poverty in the Philippines by 2033. As General Partner, I bring a wealth of experience in building and leading multiple high-performing teams, achieving results through innovation, leveraging stakeholder relationships, and generally being the audacious, subversive, pioneering force for real change.I'm also a teacher, specializing in grad-school level innovation and entrepreneurship. My academic research interests are national innovation systems and entrepreneurial ecosystems in Southeast Asia.I'm going to make a difference by being the difference. Reach out if you want to be part of that, or if you're looking for a speaker who's delivered game-changing impact.

Listed skills include Due Diligence, Technology Transfer, Public Relations, Feasibility Studies, and 46 others.

Principal And Co-Founder

Current

Manila, Philippines

There are several impact funds that invest in the Philippines, but Ignite Impact is the first that focuses exclusively on eradicating income and access poverty in the country. Headquartered in Austin, Texas and operating primarily through its branch in Manila - Ignite seeks to invest in innovations that will reduce the proportion of Filipinos living under USD 1.90 PPP to zero in 15 years.

Adjunct Professor

Makati, Philippines

When people ask me what I teach, I always answer "students" - or if I'm being facetious, "whatever they pay me to". Honestly, teaching is an addiction from which I shall probably never recover. I'm immensely proud to have taught and mentored 790 students to date at AIM - in innovation and entrepreneurship. I'm also honored to have learned the fine craft of case method teaching from my colleagues. I hope to continue teaching until I'm too senile to be trusted.

CEDI is a development corporation co-founded with my immediate family. We partnered with the Order of Friars Minor (OFM) to build columbariums adjacent to their churches which are architecturally appropriate to these historic buildings. It's a unique experience to have your mom as Chairman of the Board!

Member, Global Future Council On Sdg Investments

The Global Future Councils help the World Economic Forum determine it's agenda for the year. I'm honored to represent the Philippines as a member of the GFC on investing to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This appointment is from October 2020 - September 2022.

Oct 2020 - Sep 2022

Director

Manila, Philippines

I co-founded Ovonovo, which is a social enterprise that is partnered with the Batangas Egg Producers Cooperative. We supply pasteurized eggs to 7 major 5-star hotels and resorts, 3 food chains, and the US Army. Beyond providing safe, high-quality liquid/frozen eggs in the Philippines; Ovonovo has validated my assertion that making an investment in modernizing Filipino agriculture will result in doing good and doing well.

Ceo And Founder

Makati, Philippines

In 2004, I founded a consulting firm whose primary skill was "nerd translation". Hybridigm Consulting is the premier and pioneering innovation consulting and commercialization firm in the Philippines. In the last 14 years, the firm has developed 5 policies for the Philippine government, facilitated over $3.5M in biotech investments, trained over 17,000 aspiring entrepreneurs, and created 3,500 jobs in the poorest parts of the country. Not bad for an idea that everyone said "would never work".

Consultant

Syntherica Corporation

Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina Area

Those months of my life that seemed like a year. Talk about an intense startup bootcamp! I was very happy to help develop and implement an entrepreneurial strategy for the startup resulting in the successful raising of their initial funding round. My stay at Research Triangle Park also resulted in my enduring academic interest in entrepreneurial ecosystems.
