Sway helps cities, neighborhoods, and private clients create a more equitable approach to shared emobility. Our mobility-as-a-service model provides a turnkey operation or organizations can use our software platform to create networks of their own. Our networks exclusively use battery electric vehicles and dedicated electric vehicle chargers (EVSE), all of which we source, design, and operate.We have won multiple awards, won funding through grants and competitions, and participate in innovative pilots such our current bi-directional charging and tele-operations pilots in Detroit.As CEO I lead business development, partnerships, and fundraising activities. This includes identifying and securing relationships with electric vehicle charging manufacturers, carshare and shared mobility technology partners (software and hardware), and clients and funders. The result is a doubling or tripling of revenue each year, working with great collaborators (including OEMs), and raising money from public, private, and philanthropic sources.I also frequently speak on panels or at conferences including the NOACA Climate Action Summit, Midwest Regional Sustainability Summit, Collision Industry Conference, and the Growing Sustainable Communities Conference.

Coventry serves community development corporations (CDCs), local governments, institutional clients and individuals to achieve neighborhood and real estate sustainability goals. This is driven by a holistic or systems approach to both the buildings and the community through proven programs such as EcoDistricts and the Passive House green building standard. Given the growing importance of sustainability to clients, financial partners, and occupants, there is also a focus on an economics-driven approach to designing and implementing sustainability strategies. This includes acting as the sustainability consultant (Sustainability Coordinator) to a municipal government where Coventry attained the USGBC LEED for Cities certification (Gold), implemented an electric vehicle fleet and charging program, and transitioned to a renewable electricity program.

London, United Kingdom

After acting as the liaison with offshore capital for many years from New York, I opened the London-based office of Eastdil Secured in conjunction with Wells Fargo Securities Ltd. in 2007. Focused on third-party capital raising efforts, this entailed identifying and developing relationships with major institutional capital sources such as sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, insurance companies, and family offices. While based in the UK, most of the work involved travel to the Middle East including the UAE (Abu Dhabi, Dubai), Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Israel, as well as continental Europe (the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Finland, Denmark, France) and occasionally Asia.Despite a challenging global economy, the office was successful in both capital raising efforts for funds and a more than ten-fold increase in the base of active investors. The majority of the work to open a second office in the UAE was also completed; however, due to the economic circumstances that office was not opened.Active participation in industry organizations and events included MIPIM, Expo Real, INREV, and AFIRE.

Starting with the successful placement of an equity interest in the Chrysler Building, I worked in a small team environment on asset dispositions, financings, sale-leasebacks, and joint ventures for all property types in markets throughout the US. Particular strengths include office, super-regional malls, single-tenant properties, portfolios, and highly-structured transactions. A focus on the consolidating regional mall market led to a geographic expansion into secondary markets and a significant incremental revenue stream.Highlights include the sourcing of equity and construction financing for Comcast Center in Philadelphia, the sale of State Street’s headquarters in Boston, the structured sale of Key Tower in Cleveland, the sale or recapitalization of two dozen regional malls, the acquisition financing for a retail chain by a major private equity fund, and the highly complex construction financing of a mixed-use project and marina in the US Virgin Islands.

Greater New York City Area

Working within the investment banking arm of Citicorp, the group worked for institutional clients and on behalf of the bank’s own account to complete asset dispositions and sale-leasebacks of institutional-grade assets globally. This included assignments in North and South America and Europe, including the landmark Globe Trade Centre transaction in Poland. Sale-leasebacks were structured on behalf of corporate clients, typically for headquarters buildings, and included custom structures such as currency swaps.

Greater Chicago Area

Heller Financial, then part of Fuji Bank and subsequently sold to GE Capital, was among the first institutions to package and securitized commercial mortgage backed securities. As part of this team I underwrote a wide range of property types nationwide and performed on-site due diligence for many of the properties included in the pools.

Columbus, Ohio Area

Working in the broker-dealer affiliate of the bank, I was part of the team that originated, underwrote, and privately placed commercial real estate mortgages on multifamily, office, industrial, and retail properties, ranging in size from $750M to $153MM, in the bank’s five state footprint. I also worked on over $75MM in letter-of-credit backed adjustable rate bond placements, bank syndications of commercial loans, and mezzanine and equity private placements.
