Developed small database applications for a major oil company’s refinery maintenance staff, using Microsoft Access, ODBC, SQL, and VBA. This included all project phases from business needs analysis through user acceptance testing.

Wrote, modified, and tested Java Server Pages and Java servlets for a large-scale billing system, developed in Forte, Java, CORBA, DB2, and WebSphere. Designed and wrote Java classes for other developers to use as framework components. Traced program exceptions as far as the CORBA gateway in order to determine their origins.Wrote SQL queries for producing reports and drop lists on Java Server Pages. Provided Microsoft Access assistance to the data conversion team.Key accomplishments:• Wrote Microsoft Access queries for the data conversion process.• Wrote subqueries for retrieving frequently requested information from the database.• Created a shared component that retrieved contract characteristics from the database and generated HTML for displaying the data on JSPs.• Developed a report framework, consisting of several abstract classes for running queries and two JSPs, that reduced the development time for reports from 4-6 days to 2 days.

Participated in full life cycles for projects of varying sizes, both independently and in small teams.Designed, wrote, modified, and tested database applications in Microsoft Access, Paradox for Windows, Paradox for DOS, and Microsoft SQL Server. Customized and automated database applications using Visual Basic for Applications and ObjectPAL. Wrote VBA code that performed complex operations, such as e-mail processing, transferring data to accounting systems and generating UPC codes.Installed, configured and maintained Microsoft Windows NT network and database servers.Key accomplishments:• Devised a corporate investments tracking system for Bank One with Microsoft Access. This application used complex VBA code for operations such as repricing investments, creating detailed reports and exporting data to a mainframe.• Revised an incident-tracking system, written in Microsoft Access, which used both Access and SQL server databases as data sources.• Wrote a white paper about developing secure Microsoft Access database applications.• Generated forms, reports, VBA library code, and a version-tracking subsystem for a Microsoft Access database application framework that became the foundation for all Access projects done by my office.• Developed series of stored procedures and triggers for an internal project management system's Microsoft SQL Server database that regulated data entry and sent regular e-mail reminders to staff.

Conducted IT needs analyses for all departments. Designed project specifications; implemented systems using Paradox and other tools; delivered and supported systems. Wrote, tested, and maintained data conversion and reformatting programs.Operated NCR Tower (a UNIX-based computer). Researched hardware and software purchases. Installed and repaired computer equipment. Resolved mainframe job hangs. Planned and managed the company's Novell NetWare 386 network.Key accomplishments:• Wrote a money market account package generation system for Travelers Insurance Company's life insurance beneficiaries program. This bank-wide project increased company revenue by issuing money market accounts, instead of lump-sum checks, to life insurance beneficiaries, and earned the project team a Chairman's Award. (At the time, The Massachusetts Company was a subsidiary of Travelers Insurance Company.)• Created a Data Processing Department project-management system, using a programmable database management system, to track project life cycles and staff time.• Introduced troubleshooting and installation procedures to be used by junior PC support staff.

Wrote, tested, modified, and debugged real estate conveyancing software in BASIC. Answered questions and resolved customers' problems.
