Undergraduate Student Researcher: Cervid Sars-Cov-2College Of Natural Sciences At Umass Amherst Jan 2023 - PresentAmherst, Massachusetts, United StatesConducting undergraduate research for honors thesis titled“Serological Evaluation of SARS-CoV-2 in New England White Tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus)”. Through this process I will be collecting blood samples and nasal swabs from various wild and captive sources. The goal broadly is to detect evidence of previous and current infection of SARS-CoV-2 in order to build greater understanding of WTD as viral reservoirs and surveil local ecosystems for disease spillover. Infection will be quantified using ELISA, Luminex bead assay, and PCR. The project is an offshoot of existing work done by PI Dr. Andrew Lover in the school of Public Health and department of Epidemiology looking into WTD as a covid reservoir. Facilitation of immunological assays are thanks to research advisor and mentor Dr. Barbara Osborne. -
