Assistant for start-up biotechnology company looking into anti inflammatory function of Bacillus subtilis exopolysaccharide (EPS) to combat Graft v Host Disease (GvHD). Responsibilities include maintaining cell cultures and conducting experiments to maximize EPS yield and purification. Proficient at culturing DO.11, RAW 246.7 cell lines, and BMDCs. Assay skills include ELISA and PAS.Training currently in cell proliferation and suppression assays and flow cytometry.

Conducting undergraduate research for honors thesis titled“Serological Evaluation of SARS-CoV-2 in New England White Tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus)”. Through this process I will be collecting blood samples and nasal swabs from various wild and captive sources. The goal broadly is to detect evidence of previous and current infection of SARS-CoV-2 in order to build greater understanding of WTD as viral reservoirs and surveil local ecosystems for disease spillover. Infection will be quantified using ELISA, Luminex bead assay, and PCR. The project is an offshoot of existing work done by PI Dr. Andrew Lover in the school of Public Health and department of Epidemiology looking into WTD as a covid reservoir. Facilitation of immunological assays are thanks to research advisor and mentor Dr. Barbara Osborne.

TA for ANIMLSCI: 332 - Basic Animal Feeding and Nutrition. Responsibilities include creating, administering, and grading of weekly lab quizzes. Outside of class I serve as a resource to students in review sessions and small group or individual tutoring.

TA for PSYCH: 387 - Autism Spectrum Disorder. Focus of the course is the history, neurobiology, diagnosis, and social implications of ASD as well as disability justice all from a an intersectional and neurodiversity affirming perspective. Responsibilities include facilitating small group discussion, grading writing assignments, and continuous course improvement and development.

Longterm TA for dairy calf management course (ANSCI 238). Lead and supervise team of 20-30 students in providing excellent nutrition, healthcare, and maintenance of 25-40 Holstein calves on privately owned dairy. Perform handling and veterinary care demonstrations (e.g. haltering, restraint, esophageal feeding, dehorning, vaccination, bloat treatment etc). Communicate knowledge to students in hands on and easily digestible manner. Function as resource for questions about dairy operations and best practices. Monitor health status of animals, determine, and facilitate interventions. Present relevant research topics and foster discussion. Quickly and efficiently solve problems.

As a teaching assistant for Biology280 - Evolution: Diversity of Life Through Time and Biology 109: Evolution Explained, I am a resource for students and professor Adam Porter. I aid in grading discussion forums on relevant evolution topics and connections to ethics. I collaborate with a panel of TAs to finalize forum grades which requires team work and an open mind. I run exam review sessions for students and initiate an open line of communication via email by providing personalized advice for improving discussion posts.

Manage youngstock for 140 head milking Holstein herd with primary focus on raising successful replacement heifers from birth to weaning and beyond. Duties begin with colostrum management ensuring successful passive immunity transfer and developing feeding and weaning programs that maximize growth and health. Daily maintenance and feeding of up to 40 pre-weaned calves and weaned heifers are performed with attention to detail and consistency. Further responsibilities include dehorning, vaccinating, and determining/administering appropriate veterinary treatments for diseases. Excellent data organization and record keeping provide information for continuous improvement.Promotion following discontinuation of UMass sponsored course, Dairy Calf Management, to take over in place of student teams. Full time employment in this role is preceded by short stints as intermittent calf feeder over breaks from university when student feeding was suspended.

Student employee at UMass Equine and Livestock Research and Education Farm. Responsible for routine feeding, maintenance, handling of 19 university, police, and boarding horses. Diligently and efficiently preform tasks with a positive attitude and drive to learn. Working towards improving skills recognizing states of lameness and disease.

Student co-leader of Northeast Student Affiliate (NESA) section of the Student Affiliate Division (SAD) of the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA). Lead effort planning and executing 2024 intercollegiate livestock judging competition hosted at UMass. This year long effort of intensive planning and idea generation produced a productive and enjoyable event for 124 student competitors. Responsibilities included coordinating of: appropriate animal classes, animal management, judges, organizing volunteers, and event announcing.

Weekend milker for a 150 head holstein dairy herd. Duties include moving cows between pens, moving cows to and from the parlor, cleaning udders, attaching teat cups, separate collection of treated or fresh milk, parlor maintenance, and observing cows for illness or injury.

Worked with Belted Galloway steers, dams, and a bull in preparation for the UMass Bay State Livestock Classic. I learned much about the proper handling of beef cattle, how to properly lead cattle, and how to use a show stick to position the cattle to best display their conformation. I placed 2nd in the show.
