Criollo-Rivera is passionate about children’s television programming, specializing in visual development, storyboarding, illustration, and screenwriting. As a recipient of the 2023-2025 Obama-Chesky Voyager Scholarship, she is recognized for creating impactful narratives that promote equity in children's media. She is currently pursuing a degree in Digital Media, with minors in Business and Psychology, at the University of Rochester, focusing on child development to enhance her storytelling.She founded Rock of Arts by Mara, where she creates and sells culturally inspired artwork. Her experience as an art teacher for children highlights her commitment to fostering creativity and diversity in young minds. Professionally, she interned at the Paley Center for Media, where she led social media campaigns and developed digital content. Under the mentorship of Peter Roth, she pitched an original animated children’s TV show, designing characters and crafting storylines.In her artistic endeavors, she has led the visual development, illustration, and storyboarding process for children’s picture books, bringing vibrant and diverse stories to life. She has also played a key role in the visual development of several short films at the University of Rochester, where she served as an art director, prop designer, and storyboard artist, shaping the visual language of these films from concept to completion.Beyond her work in visual development, she has written original screenplays and developed pitches for both animated and live-action projects, crafting compelling narratives that reflect diverse perspectives. Additionally, she has consulted on and edited scripts for acclaimed short films, ensuring cohesive storytelling and narrative clarity across projects.Her research experience includes working as a bilingual research assistant at the Cognitive Development Lab, where she studied generational dynamics within Puerto Rican families. Currently, she works at the Paul J. Burgett Intercultural Center, promoting cultural awareness and inclusivity through various program initiatives. With her expertise in visual development, illustration, screenwriting, storyboarding, and child development research, she is dedicated to creating meaningful, inclusive content that resonates with young audiences.
