My career has spanned forty-plus years across a range of successful service-driven organizations contributing in sales, project management, strategic planning, organizational development, financial oversight, communications and public relations. I have served in myriad roles from entry level and ‘back-of-house’ positions to owner and partner. The small business environment, whether profit or non-profit, is where my skill set is best applied. Well--run entities are powerful agents and can serve not only their clients or customers but all constituents at every level. To be well-run is never a given and requires skill, intention, and energy. Profit or not, a business is much more than the numbers, although understanding and working with relevant metrics are among the essential responsibilities of management. Small business represents exceptional opportunities for professionals of all kinds to lead and to follow, to learn and to grow, to inspire and be inspired. This is the dynamic arena in which I am most productive, creative and useful. A 3rd Chapter focusses on professional mentorship and discrete, brief consultancies working with various umbrella organizations, collaborating directly with entrepreneurs and other professionals in diverse business contexts, both profit and non-profit. I am interested in helping people succeed regardless of specific context. Consulting and mentorship facilitates the synthesis and concentration of methodologies, resources, experiences and insights gained throughout a life of work and delivered as a general resource to others. My approach is to use deep listening, intelligent question-asking, careful observation, and reflection before providing thoughtful direction and encouragement. I want to be helpful to others in reaching their objectives.
