“To know oneself is the beginning to all wisdom” Knowing yourself is essential to personal development: my inspiration in life. Personal development entails numerous things: deepen existing relationships, explore the world by travelling, create new skills, play a new instrument, learn new things. In doing so I create personal growth, focus and peace of mind. For a company to be succesfull, the same principle is applicable: one cannot be succesfull without knowing itself. What are the strengths, weaknessess, opportunities and threats? Companies are continuously engaged with these questions and in doing so they make use of risk management. What used to be a fashionable term, now becomes more and more real to many different companies, if not all. An important element of good risk management is to know the business, the market- and the regulatory developments. Only then is it possible to obtain an integrated risk framework within the company, that secures the strategy and vision of management. During my career at PwC I have worked on various project with this being the one overarching theme.
