I am the Illinois Director for The Humane Society of the United States. In this position, I am responsible for:• Advancing state and federal legislative priorities and tracking and monitoring legislation in IL• Conducting ongoing meetings with legislators, staff, committee members, and governmentofficials to build relationships, understand their needs, and provide education/awareness;• Providing written and public testimony, attending legislative hearings related to priority billsduring legislative sessions and other appropriate times to lobby for or against helpful orharmful bills, and planning and organizing Humane Lobby Day;• Recruiting, leading, supporting, and inspiring key leadership volunteers within Illinois toadopt a culture of fundraising on behalf of the HSUS;• Working with key volunteer leaders to grow a large base of highly qualified and dedicatedvolunteers to cultivate a sense of philanthropic pride in their communities;• Building and engaging a diverse coalition of advocates who are committed to achieving organizational, program, and campaign goals and to building a humane economy. •Managing state councils, conducting grassroots and legislative meetings, delivering presentations toinfluential audiences, networking, and serving as a resource to shelter and animal control leaders. My last position was serving as the Policy Director in the Illinois Executive Branch. In this role I led the office in policy formation and analysis. I have exceptional experience working with a broad coalition of environmental, industry, and business representatives to solve watershed problems and work with the Science Advisory Committee to help update the State of Illinois' Integrated Management Plan for the Illinois River. Before joining the State of Illinois, I worked for four years at the Legal, Legislative, and Policy Institute and was lucky enough to develop a passion for policy formation to improve public sector performance.
