Within the Technical Team, I was an active part of the QUALITY and SUPPLIER CONTROL program for CHEP (www.chep.com) and other corporate clients, within the TIMBER PACKAGING and PALLET MANUFACTURING industries.- Assistance in the scope extension of the QUALITY CONTROL program with the inclusion of the most relevant boards and wooden blocks suppliers. I was the person responsible to define the list of suppliers to be controlled.- Quality control of the final product, WOODEN PALLETS and their raw material (timber boards and wooden blocks) according to the SPECIFICATIONS provided by CHEP.- Holding regular meetings with all suppliers in order to inform them about the new scope of the program, and about the results of the AUDITS.These two periods in this position represented an opportunity to get an in-depth knowledge on the TIMBER PACKAGING industry and its STAKEHOLDERS, learning about their different limitations, regulations and opportunities across Europe.

Responsible for the Baltic and Russia Hubs Operations, for all the PRODUCTION PROCESSES related to all material for EXPORT. 1) Creation and implementation of the Supplier QUALITY ASSURANCE Program. The program aimed to guarantee the optimal quality of the raw material delivered to our CUSTOMERS. Suppliers were continuously evaluated looking for their CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT based on previously-defined QUALITY STANDARDS.- Creation of QUALITY PROTOCOLS and the corresponding Timber Quality and Timber Packaging NORMS, which defined the quality of the material to be included in the timber packages, and the process on how to build the timber units guaranteeing their optimal resistance during transportation and handling.- Preparation of a VisualAid documents to be given to all those workers responsible for the preparation of the timber packages in the different suppliers.- Holding regular MEETINGS with all suppliers to present the results and discuss possible CORRECTIVE ACTIONS.- Preparation and discussion of weekly and monthly REPORTS with the results in order to better adapt company's QUALITY NORMS and tolerances.2) Execution of the PROCEDURE for hubs and sawmills:- Incoming goods QUALITY CONTROL, together with the assurance of the correct stacking of the fresh material in the yard. Physical control of the stock. - Control of the Kiln-dry (KD) process and the sorting of the material afterwards.- Loading control into the containers.In this position I had the opportunity to join the COMMERCIAL DEPARTMENT, with a direct contact with both the SUPPLIERS and EXTERNAL CUSTOMERS when QUALITY issues appeared.Facing critical situations sometimes, I could significantly improve my ASSERTIVE COMMUNICATION in an INTERNATIONAL environment, ADAPTING to different realities in different suppliers, but always keeping in mind the COMPANY GOALS and PRIORITIES.By WORKING UNDER PRESSURE I had to develop good NEGOTIATION skills.

RESEARCH Project: Evaluating the potential of AIRBORNE LASER SCANNING (ALS) Remote Sensing for developing INDICATORS applied in SUSTAINABILITY impact assessment with ToSIA tool.- Hands on LIDAR data PROCESSING TECHNIQUES: computerization of several metrics using FUSION software.- Linear REGRESSION MODELLING using R-PROJECT to predict different forest stand characteristics together with field data.- MAPPING the predicted values for the different FOREST PARAMETERS with GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS), ArcMap.Results of this project were presented at Geomundus 2012: CONFERENCE on Geosciences, GEOINFORMATION and Environment, held at Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Portugal). This experience as a presenter allowed me to develop good PUBLIC SPEAKING and PRESENTATION skills, which is something that I enjoy doing now.During all this time my supervisor was living in a different country, and thanks to that I could strengthen my WORK COMMITMENT and WORK RESPONSIBILITY abilities.This supervision from the distance also allowed me to improve my ORGANIZATION and TASK PRIORITIZATION skills.I also could have hands on LIDAR data, broadening my knowledge on REMOTE SENSING information sources and PROCESSING techniques.

3 months stay in Brazil corresponding to the Applied Period in Forest Institutions course within the MSc. in European Forestry - Erasmus study program.RESEARCH PROJECT: Assessment of the potential of different Pinus sp. for the regeneration of tree NATIVE SPECIES in degraded areas within the Cerrado biome in Brazil. - Data collection concerning TREE adaptation and GROWTH of Pinus sp. in the area of study, and about the REGENERATION of the native species.- Calculation of different statistical parameters with SAS Statistical Analysis Software.- Public PRESENTATION of the results in front of the other students, in PORTUGUESE.- Assistance in the EXPERIMENTAL areas' design and establishment at one of the university research stations. Field work and study of EUCALIPTUS SP. and tree native species' PLANTATIONS.During the internship I also attended other courses in the AMAZON and SAVANNAH regions, thanks to the collaboration with two other Brazilian universities: Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP) & Universidade Federal do Pará (UFPA).The decision to go to Brazil was a CHALLENGE, but at the same time an opportunity to get a good image of the FOREST SECTOR GLOBALLY.In most of the places I stayed people could not speak English or Spanish, and that was perfect to develop good PORTUGUESE skills.I also noticed a big difference in their WORKING CULTURE, forcing me to ADAPT to these new conditions.
