I have three key areas in this role: preparation, training and development, and daily running of the Playscheme. Preparation: During this stage I am responsible for child bookings; recruiting staff; liaising with parents, schools and external agencies regarding children's individual needs (including Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Child and Adolescents Mental Health Services and Social Work); planning activities and outings suitable for the children's needs; carrying out school visits. Training and Development: I'm addition to preparation of the Playscheme I am also responsible for developing the service offered as well as the staff who work. On the run up to Playscheme we hold a training week in which a variety of training is offered. I am responsible for delivering training on how to Promote Positive Behaviour to staff from over 4 playschemes across Edinburgh. In addition to the training carried out by us, I seek out opportunities for training for staff from other agencies and services. I am also responsible for the development of the service provided by at my venue. An example of this is the recent push I have made for having an increased visual program in the centre. This is seen through an increased use of visual timetables, activity strips and of Picture Exchange Communication Systems. For this I have worked particularly close with Schools and Speech and Language Therapists to develop and appropriate system. Daily Running: While Playscheme is on during the Playscheme I am responsible for around 60 staff and children. I am there to ensure that everything runs smoothly and am there as a support to staff as I do not work directly with the children. This could be through helping them to get out on trips, helping with any staff or parent issues or requests, and dealing with any situations which may arise.
