I am an associate professor of sociology with ten years of employment in that role and fifteen years of experience as a qualitative sociological researcher. My emphasis is on ethnographic research methods, more specifically participant-observation, semi-structured interviewing, and content analysis of documents. I have numerous academic publications, including two books, and have experience as an editor as well. My general interest is in understanding how individuals and small groups of people develop meaning, identities, and a sense of community through interactions and introspection. Thus far in my career, I have examined these processes in the contexts of progressive political activism (my PhD research) and paranormal investigation/ghost hunting (my most recent research). I have a passion for being educated about and active in relation to matters of social and economic injustice and inequity, and believe that sociology is at its best when knowledge gained through systematic research can inform policy and improve the lives of those who suffer due to prejudice, discrimination, and long-standing inequities rooted in our nation's history. It is my desire to put my sociological training to use in the pursuit of greater access to resources, opportunities, and platforms for those who are disadvantaged in our society.
