• Developed spatio-temporal statistical models that combined data on fruiting patterns, gorilla foraging behaviors, seed dissemination patterns, and adult tree distributions to investigate the consequences of gorilla-mediated seed dispersal on the demographics and forest structure in a tropical tree community.• Research provided new data that gorilla-dispersed tree species in Central Africa are dispersal limited. Highly clumped seed dissemination patterns around gorilla nest-sites persisted late into recruitment, and accounted for the clumped distributions observed in some adult tree species.• Field work in Gabon spanned 20 months and included mentoring and training Gabonese students.

Mondika Research Center, Central African Republic

• Researcher for a long-term research project in the Djéké Triangle on the border of Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park, Congo. • Habituation of two gorilla groups, and data collection on gorilla ranging and feeding behavior, and tree phenology.

• Responsible for testing intermediate and final product samples to demonstrate that all products met all standards required for cGMP compliance operations.• Techniques utilized included immunoassays (ELISA), Flow Cytometry, multiple types of spectrometry, raw materials testing, stability testing, assay transfer, and the qualification of new instrumentation utilized in the Quality Control laboratory.• Compiled and analyzed data for documentation of test procedures and prepared reports; revised and updated standard operating procedures and protocols as needed.

Labé, Fouta Jallon, Guinea

• Coordinated all field activities for a staff of 6 for the implementation of a cost-effective monitoring program that employed local hunters to routinely monitor chimpanzee communities in the Fouta Jallon region. This project was a part of the Co-Management of Reserved Forests activities implemented under the aegis of the Expanded Natural Resources Management Activity (PEGRN) funded by USAID/Guinea.• Implemented a chimpanzee awareness campaign in 5 villages on the border of targeted Classified Forests. Activities included meetings with village councils, evening slide shows, theater, and organizational discussions with local women’s organizations.• Responsible for all monitoring and evaluation of projects and reporting to financiers.• Trained a Guinean counterpart to take over the management of the project after my departure.

Niokola Koba National Park, Senegal

• Conducted surveys of wildlife, including chimpanzees, in Niokola Koba National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the Zone d’Interet Cynegetique of Falémé, a natural wildlife area covering over a million hectares in southeastern Senegal acting as a buffer zone to the park.• Provided technical assistance on Wildlife and Protected Areas Management to the Direction des Parcs Nationaux (DPN).• Assisted villagers, women’s groups, and schools in the promotion of energy-conserving woodstoves, agro-forestry, health issues, and environmental education. • Implemented reforestation and woodlot projects that helped to offset the ever-increasing demand for firewood/charcoal consumed in the household.• Facilitated a community-based guinea fowl husbandry project aimed at reducing the threat of bushmeat/poaching on the park’s border.• Co-organized 2 regional teacher training workshops focusing on building environmental education materials and pedagogy for primary school children.
