Financial Literacy Tour - Southern Africa - By MotorbikeIt'S A Breeze Feb 2023 - Jul 2023Southern Africa* My Business Financial Literacy training journey started in 2012, and mostly took place in South Africa, with occassional workshops in other countries (India and South Sudan)* From 2018 it became clear to me that I wanted to serve the whole of Africa, instead of just South Africa, and I began actively building networks and potential Sales Channels across the Continent* This led to a thought that I might want to relocate at some point to be more in the middle of my markets* Seeing I… Show more * My Business Financial Literacy training journey started in 2012, and mostly took place in South Africa, with occassional workshops in other countries (India and South Sudan)* From 2018 it became clear to me that I wanted to serve the whole of Africa, instead of just South Africa, and I began actively building networks and potential Sales Channels across the Continent* This led to a thought that I might want to relocate at some point to be more in the middle of my markets* Seeing I was developing a good relationship with Isaac, based in Kigali, that became the likely destination * Lockdowns in 2020 and business revenue collapse led me to accelerate the idea of the relocation to Rwanda* The next question was "Well, HOW are you going to DO the relocation?". Being a bit of an adventurer (and biker) this quickly developed into doing the relocation by motorbike trip - which then also led to the decision to trim my life down to the "6 boxes" I would have for luggage space on the bike* Initially I thought I would leave at the end of 2020 (ha ha ha) - ultimately it took 2 1/2 years of sorting my life out and prepping before I finally set off on 2 Feb 2023* Although the end destination was Rwanda, I also wanted to do a "shake-down" trip to see what works and not, and also get to as many countries on the bike as possible en-route* So hence the initial Southern Africa loop - Botswana, Namibia, Cape Town (SA), Lesotho, Durban(SA)* I conceived of the trip as Financial Literacy tour (not just an adventure), and so I partnered with Universities and Entrepreneur Support Organisations en-route to run free Masterclasses wherever I could (see pics)* The original plan was to continue northwards from Durban, but some funding constraints meant my return to Joburg in July 2023, with the Rwanda relocation plan waiting for the right time Show less -
