When I moved to South Africa in 2012, it was to help run ITWinners, a unique IT Best Practice consulting and training provider. ITWinners was founded by Gary Hardy, co-creator of the COBIT framework (IT Governance) and lead developer of its first five versions. He created the first COBIT training course and developed the CGEIT certification for ISACA. Our approach at ITWinners focused on impactful engagements, where we passed on as much knowledge as possible to our partners, enabling them to sustain positive changes.As we expanded our training portfolio, we encountered the BRM Institute, which offered a powerful body of knowledge. This helped us realize that, beyond process, the missing piece was people. Their guidance bridged the gap between IT and business, emphasizing vital 'soft' skills for internal and external relationships.Shortly before COVID, we decided to move our business online to scale our impact. While continuing virtual consulting, we developed eLearning options for certification training courses. As online learning demand grew, we created material for different audiences. We saw a growing need to raise executive-level awareness on topics like Cyber Security and Digital Transformation, traditionally handled by specialist teams. These initiatives often lacked sufficient oversight, posing significant risks. We launched Executive Education Online to address these risks, and the feedback thus far has been inspiring.Along the way, I met Carolynn Chalmers, an ex-CIO and Good Governance advocate. Carolynn’s efforts to drive the adoption of the King Corporate Guidance were recognized by the author himself, Professor Mervyn King, who invited her to lead the Good Governance Academy (GGA). Founded in 2019, the GGA is a non-profit organization established to share King's global associations with universities, business schools, and professional bodies - using them as a catalyst to educate and empower global leaders in Good Governance.To support the Academy's growth, Carolynn assembled an exceptional group of academics and business leaders who volunteer their time and thought leadership. The Academy aligns with two UN Sustainable Development Goals; Quality Education (4) and Collaboration (17). These guide our main focus areas, Research and Training. In 2022, Lindi Grebe was appointed to lead Research, and in 2023, I was asked to head up Training. It has been an honour and a privilege to join the team, and I look forward to collaborating with the brightest minds to deliver an ethical and sustainable future for the next generation.
