ABSTRACT ARTIST whose signature swirls, splatters, and drips produce eye-catching paintingsSelf-taught and influenced by the New York abstract expressionist painters, Marc painted his first abstract painting in 1991. A 25-year career as a K-12 classroom teacher relegated painting to a hobby for Marc, and in January 2020, he began painting full time.Marc’s paintings vibrate with color, line, and movement. His signature swirls, splatters, and drips are both eye-catching and fascinating, pulling the viewer in to explore the multi-dimensionality of the web-like compositions. Serpentine yarns of paint advance and recede to form a colorful and textured surface in what feels like a game of hide and seek. Patches of shimmering iridescent pigment, thin metallic threads, and viscose drips of latex enamel keep the viewer's eyes darting across the canvas from one focal point to another. He achieves the painting’s pulse, logic, and harmony by consciously attending to formal elements and allowing intuition to freely assert itself. Through the mastery of his materials and techniques, Marc produces jazz-like improvisations on canvas that evoke a strong emotional response in the viewer.
