Responsible for overseeing the successful operations of the association’s chapters, expanding NAIOP’s chapter network and implementing new membership programs and initiatives. Highlights include:• Affiliate Relations: Successfully created five new chapters for the organization cities such as Indianapolis, New York City and Edmonton. Responsibilities also included continued growth and accomplishments for the organization’s chapters. Metrics for success included seamless transition of leadership, development and implementation of membership programs and benefits and financial well-being of all chapters.• Membership Recruitment and Retention: Developed new programs with a focus on the recruitment and retention of young professionals in commercial real estate. In three-year period guided a fledgling young professional membership category from approximately 200 members to 3,100.• Conference Planning: Produced the association’s annual Chapter Leadership and Legislative Retreat. Ensured that all chapter leaders and members interested in influencing the legislative process attended the event. Created program content and secured speakers.• Association Management: Counseled NAIOP’s 57 chapters on association management issues including best practices in non-profit management, leadership development and board responsibilities.• Operations: Managed two key departments within the association accountable for nearly 60% of the association’s revenue. Responsible for the oversight of five employees.

Senior executive staff member charged with implementing a new state-centric strategic model for the society while providing oversight and guidance related to the execution of their recently adopted strategic plan. Focal areas included:• Operations: Responsible for overseeing four of the Society’s eight departments including membership, component relations, information technology and meetings. Overhauled the membership department to increase efficiency, maximize productivity and improve membership relations. Provided guidance and direction for the transition and implementation of a new association management system.• Strategic Planning: Worked with two oversight committees to monitor the progress and implementation of the strategic plan. Created a series of performance metrics to gauge the Society’s success in achieving the plan’s objectives. • Component Relations: Put forth an organizational plan that aided the transition from a national to state-centric governance system. Worked with 53 state and territorial chapters to actively build and strengthen the State Societies Executives Council – an internal committee of states designed to implement national directives and develop systems to improve the operations of state chapters.• Governance and Leadership Development: Coordinated a new orientation and leadership development program for the Society’s new governing body, the House of Delegates. Served as a staff liaison to the Board of Directors and four committees. • Financial Controls: Managed nearly two-thirds of the approximate 7 million dollar budget. Restructured staffing to implement cost savings and achieve greater organizational efficiencies.• Human Resources: Directed the operations of four departments and 21 staff.

Challenged, as the first chief executive hired by the organization, to build the membership and implement strategic direction for a recently incorporated trade association. Results include:• Membership Development: Increased membership 29% over a two-year period through overhaul of marketing initiatives/materials, development of new membership benefits, and introduction of an advertising campaign in trade publications.• Governance and Operations: Implemented an annual strategic planning retreat to work with the leadership in drafting measurable objectives and strategies. Encouraged Board of Directors to appoint committees providing member input addressing key association priorities. Worked intimately with board of directors/volunteer leaders regarding key aspects of association operations.• Communications and Public Relations: Served as the primary press contact for the association. Regularly communicated with trade and national press, including the Wall Street Journal. Addressed audiences at conferences on industry related topics.• Conference and Event Planning: Directed the organization’s annual conference to contract presenters, plan functions, and coordinate necessary events and logistics.

• Component Relations: As an internal association management consultant, assisted affiliated associations in their operations through organizational audits, government relations assessments, leadership development programs and strategic planning.• Business Development: Responsible for promoting department services to NAHB affiliated associations and improving affiliate relationships with the national organization.
