I served for six years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of Hawaii, where I gained expertise in national security matters, financial crime, procurement fraud, health care fraud, public corruption, cyber crime, environmental crime, and crimes against children. Representative matters include prosecutions of: Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and four othersaccused of perpetrating the attacks of September 11, 2001; Hambali, the alleged mastermind ofthe 2002 Bali bombings; Abd al Hadi al Iraqi, the alleged commander of al Qaeda forces inAfghanistan and Pakistan; and Abd al Rahim al Nashiri, the alleged mastermind of the bombing of the U.S.S. I served as lead associate in a qui tam litigation against world’s largest biotechnology company, which culminated in $780 million global settlement just before trial. In that capacity, I managed 14 attorneys and 11 staff members, who collectively reviewed six million pages of discovery. I took 23 fact depositions and defended five expert depositions around the country over a period of 60 days, and managed the scheduling and logistics for numerous other depositions taken by colleagues at the firm, sometimes running as many as five depositions simultaneously. I managed the enforcement of 250+ subpoenas and notices.I successfully represented National Credit Union Administration in multiple lawsuits against numerous Wall Street banks for failed investments in residential mortgage-backed securities. I interviewed numerous fact witnesses, and managed a massive document review project.I successfully defended the State of Tennessee, in the United States Supreme Court, in an original jurisdiction suit by the State of Mississippi, over $1 billion in groundwater rights to an interstate aquifer.
