I had the interest, ability and capacity to realize solutions to challenging problems, since childhood; a quick study, my 'work life' began very early. Elementary, and intermediate school holidays were my father's or grandfather's business trips to our dairy farms, mink ranches, and animal byproduct processing facilities (rendering plants).Since 1971 (grandfather's illness) I ran 5 family agribusinesses businesses at 7 locations in 3 states, over 18 years, not including an ICC trucking co. to ensure supply chain integrity. I started my own medical instrument design, manufacturing (Magna Fortis Corp.), and marketing co. (Stethoscopes.com) in 1996.I spent several months in 1980 at Cornell U. researching Theriogenology. 65% implantation was considered, 'success', by my professors. I returned to Meridale Farms to devise and develop non-surgical bovine embryo transfer with 83-87% live births. In our Wisconsin and Texas animal byproduct processing facilities state-of-the-art odor abatement equipment reduced cooking odors significantly, but failed to definitively resolve complaints from an expanding, nearby bedroom community. I knew the most offensive ingredient, turkey feathers being hydrolyzed (high heat/high pressure) was its principal attribution. I theorized, processing a sealed volume of feathers in a Na2S cold slurry was environmentally safe, and could be separated by filtration, and collected into a pure keratin cake (93% pure amino acid), and water. The USDA invited, loaned me their experimental test facilities in Cherry Hill, NJ. (Turkey fat, made up 3%). The process worked. I flew back to WI, designed and built a pilot plant to scale. The processing time, and energy inputs saved exceeded expectations, when I removed the turkey fat from the avian feathers before processing,All solutions are contextual.
