It may sound a little overhyped, but in today’s economy “it’s all about the data”. As a data services executive, I build, deliver, and manage sophisticated online information and analytics services for the global financial services and other industries. I’ve worked for the world’s largest data vendors, founded and sold a technology firm, and worked at financial services firms. I wrote the book on the subject - really, check out my publications "Market Data Explained" and my two chapters in the "Handbook of Financial Data and Risk Information"!Starting from my time as a Product Manager at a global information services firm, I've always aimed at applying proven methods to this very broad landscape. At Protego, I've been tasked with designing and implementing enterprise data service within a next generation zero trust banking architecture to service both digital and traditional client assets. Previously, I drove the digital transformation for a global information provider. While cutting across two very different business sectors, the needs to drive the business sure have a lot in common - to thrive in a digital world, data services need to be topflight and positioned to service a astonishingly broad set of business functions.Delivering information services - whether a global product or an internal application - is not a task for the weak of heart. You need to master a complex cross section of understanding content, data science, technology, operations, service levels, business management and, above all, knowledge on how the data is actually used. Making it even more challenging, there's no standing still - new tech is always coming to market, it’s a moving target.Today’s business world is more quantitative and statistics driven than ever before - it’s the new normal. As someone who studied econometrics in university, it’s great to see and is right in my comfort zone. It’s an exciting time but harnessing the power of data is as much art as science and is definitely not an easy task.
