Study of the gas injection to optimize the density profile in a LASER-Plasma electron acceleration experiment

Developping a MATLAB program to automate the tuning of steering dipoles in a portion of the beam line in the injector of the new Free-Electron LASER XFEL. Transport of a charged particles beam requires different magnetic dipoles and quadrupoles able to deviate and refocus the beam. Various Beam Position Monitors are placed along the beam line and can detect misalignments which are to be corrected by tuning the magnetic steerers accordingly.

Modeling of the mechanical behaviour of structural steel for a Generation IV nuclear reactor. Around 60 longitudinal tensile tests have been carried out at 3 different strain rates between 1e-5 and 1e-3 s^-1 and 11 temperatures between 25 and 700°C. The tensile testpieces are made of a stainless steel alloy whose mechanical properties are investigated. A visco-plastic model has been chosen and its parameters fitted from the experimental data. The model is able to reproduce quite accurately the relevant mechanical properties (Conventional Yield Strenght, Ultimate Tensile Strenght and Uniform Elongation) as well as the shape of the Stress/Strain curve until the necking.
