Consumer Product Hobbyist
CurrentI create consumer product ideas, and some of them I launch, because I love doing it and it's fun.GrandmaFidler.com - Tallow Prairie CandlesWas intrigued by the ability to use waste trimmings of fat to make candles. Created 5 test candles in November 2015, additional batches of 70 test candles in 2016. Difficult to control QA and also scalability, so have used all test candles thus far as gifts. Spacephon.es - Isolation headphone prototypeCreated highly effective prototype for passive noise-insulation headphones. Still searching for right team members to turn into actual commercial project. Meal Mix - Vegan meal-replacement shake powderCreated a mix of whole-grain flours, and natural flavors such as cocoa and cinnamon, for mixing into meal shakes. Tested for about a year, but decided the flavor profile was not noticeably better than other competing products. Still make+use the mixture but now for baking, in muffins and such, which tastes much better.

Gmat/Gre Tutor
Operations Manager
Solar One does amazing educational programming within the realm of sustainability and energy efficiency, and it is my job to make everything work as best as possible.Areas include IT, SAS implementation, marketing & branding, facilities, HR and everything else that has to happen in a small organization to make the gears turn. One of my primary focuses has been on improving internal communication. Using the lessons learned from my previous job, I set up an internal 'knowledge hub' where people can find and add company wisdom, processes, etc. Use is near 100% and it has reduced the time spent looking for info by 80% or more.
Project Manager
In my largest project, I'm creating tracking systems and databases to store and manage project and program information in an easier and more productive way. This "project" has involved all four departments in CEC and is used by around 50% of the total staff, to varying degrees. An initial (and ongoing) challenge was to explain and teach new web 2.0 tools to non-technical and skeptical sponsors. A significant related challenge was (is) to discuss, debate, and agree on the evolving system goals. My strongest skill is the combination of a strong and friendly communication ethic and a broad technical knowledge.I led an inventory control project whose goal was to--once and for all--organize all the the state-monitored inventory items in the store room, and to create a documentable process of receiving and transferring such that we always had a count of current inventory. This fun change-of-pace moved me from a role that was much more significantly technical, to a role that was all "soft" skills. Within this project I spent lots of effort managing expectations, creating deliverables from consensus, following up on tasks, and resolving conflict.I have also, so far, created no less than three website redesigns for CEC. This reflects both CEC's evolving priorities as well as my evolving skills. As I become better, I quickly become unsatisfied with my previous work.
Business Manager
I worked as the business manager for CEC's Green Building Services department until May 2010. The projects within this role were: I rebuilt the project time-tracking system. I created a new consolidated department-wide contact database. I created a new marketing and branding aesthetic. The ongoing responsibilities (which greatly evolved over the course of the role) included: I acted as the primary point of contact and knowledge base for projects which were involved in complicated government incentive programs. I wrote proposal templates and custom proposals. I created a set of marketing materials such as flyers for different services that the department offered. I compiled financial reports and tracked project status.
