When I was a young boy, someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I loudly proclaimed to everyone in the room: “A dinosaur!”. It didn’t quite work out as planned.Instead, my career has taken me all over Canada, working in a variety of roles within the creative and social economy. These experiences led to the development of a distinct skill set that helps me navigate the healthy tension between creativity and business.I'm full of curiosity which means I love a good challenge. A strategic thinker, I approach each day determined to find a better way forward. As a team builder, I find the right people to get us there. I'm a values-based, entrepreneurial leader who loves any experiment that takes great courage and shows great potential. These qualities are at the heart of meaningful and lasting innovation and change - something that I have played a leading role in with multiple organizations throughout my career. My experiences have always involved a diverse set of stakeholders - staff, customers, donors, volunteers, board members, business and government. Together, we have tackled interesting challenges and created positive outcomes for those around us. I have successfully led two high-profile cultural institutions through moments of crisis that threatened their survival, both times resulting in organizational evolution and improved community standing on the other side of the crisis. It is a result of my ability to stare down adversity and being comfortable knowing that I don't have to be the smartest person in the room. But between you and me - I still wish I could be a dinosaur.
