Composers owned their copyrights, maintained their comprehensive online presence (bio, works list, discography, performance calendar, news, reviews, etc.) and received 100% of the royalties the company collected. Customers could browse composer profiles and file-protected full scores for free and then either purchase music or get an instant license quote for rentals, synchs, permissions and other uses.

I also led the company’s group-wide expansion into jazz, personally signing renowned artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Chick Corea, Paquito D’Rivera, David Benoit and Andrew Hill as well as the estate of Charles Mingus.

I was responsible for all licensing and contractual matters. I negotiated licensing and composer deals, rewrote all the company's form contracts and started the NY office's synchronization licensing department.
Senior Attorney
I prosecuted copyright infringement lawsuits throughout the country, defended the company in cases involving songwriters, publishers and labels and advised management on legislation affecting songwriters. BMI is one of four US music performing rights organizations or PROs (the others are ASCAP, SESAC and GMR). It represents songwriters and music publishers in every genre when their works are performed live, on TV, radio and over the Internet. The PROs also provide career guidance and information to songwriters as well as lobby Congress and state legislatures on copyright and other issues relevant to the songwriting community.
