Profile bio

About Marc Edelman

I am a 2023 Fulbright Scholar, a law professor with more than 15 years of academic teaching experience at the law and business school levels, and a former Skadden antitrust attorney. My primary line of legal scholarship focuses on competition issues in the sports, gaming, statistical data, and education industries. I have published more than 70 law journal articles, presented my research at upwards of 150 academic conferences, and testified in front of multiple government agencies. I have experience teaching first-year courses in Contracts and Property, and in teaching upper-level courses in Antitrust, Gaming Law, Intellectual Property, and Sports Law. I have won numerous teaching awards at both the law school and business school levels. All of my course teaching evaluations, in all courses taught, are 4.5/5.0 or higher. In terms of service to the academy, I currently serve as the Director of Sports Ethics at the Robert Zicklin Center for Corporate Integrity. I previously was Baruch College’s Faculty Athletic Advisor to the NCAA and a member of both the Zicklin School Executive Committee and the Law Department Executive Committee. While serving as a faculty member at the Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law, I was the faculty advisor to both the Black Law Students Association and the Jewish Law Students Association. As an adjunct faculty member at Fordham Law School since 2010, I have been actively involved with helping the Fordham Sports Law Forum to choose topics and select speakers for their annual sports law symposium. I recently returned to the United States after completing a three-month fellowship as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar at the University of Canberra, where I conducted research on the comparative governance of sports under the American and Australian systems. An important theme of my research was on the topic of “college athlete rights as human rights.” In addition to earning me the opportunity to serve as a Fulbright Scholar, my ongoing research on ensuring proper legal protections for college athletes, Olympic athletes, and other historically unrepresented athletes has also earned me numerous awards within the academy, including the 2022 Abraham Briloff Faculty Prize in Ethics and the 2018 Virginia Maurer Award for Best Ethics Paper. In addition to teaching law, I provide high-level legal consulting services and expert witness services to entities in the sports and gaming industries, as well as regularly speak publicly on sports law topics. Please feel free to reach out to me either by phone (516-729-4383) or email (Marc@MarcEdelman.com).
