The development of projects that I manage range from 6 months to 4 years with the larger projects generating turnover of more than € 40 million. I fulfil the role of System Safety Manager (SSM) on all my products. As technical lead I also interface to our international customers base, facilitating discussions ranging from requirements gathering, development progress status, logistics and support. My success in leading engineers are based on the principles of sufficient communication, empowering of specialists, interim milestone management and common sense.

What is now Hensoldt Optronics South Africa has had many names over the years, starting with Eloptro & Cumulus (Denel), Carl Zeiss Optronics , Cassidian Optronics in 2012 and Airbus Defence and Space Optronics. In February 2017 the parent company in Germany was bought by the US private equity firm KKR who acquired majority ownership to create Hensoldt GmbH.I was part of an engineering team that developed a range of airborne surveillance equipment for mainly European clients. The software included embedded and PC-based application done in C and C++. Due to the nature of our business we employed a more structured V-Shape (Validation and Verification) model for our development and Waterfall SDLC for the smaller projects. I also have knowledge of Agile programming techniques.I progressed to a role of Software development manager for a project of ±15 Software engineers, Firmware engineers and Technicians to handle the software related requirements analysis, traceability and qualification on system level.
