During my Master's degree, at the Technical University of Darmstadt the focus was already on in-depth lectures in the field of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. Examples include "numerical calculation methods", "higher fluid mechanics" and "nano- and microfluid technology". At the institute for nano- and mikrofluids (nmf) I wrote my masters thesis with the title "Concentration and Separation of Large DNA Molecules by Combined Isotachophoresis and Dielectrophoresis" consequently. Here I was able to combine the different aspects I focussed on in my studies in an experimental-analytical work which also featured electrical phenomena in fluid dynamics. Therefore, the thesis tackled a so called multi-physical research topic. The approach of multi-physical descriptions of technical problems, i.e. a combination of several engineering and physics domains, fascinated me so much that I focused my subsequent research activities on this. With the masters degree finished I started as a research associate at the institute for product development and machine elements (pmd). The objective of my work at the institute was to establish the field of numerical tribology at the institute. For this purpose, I built up an OpenFOAM-based toolbox for the simulation of electrically loaded rolling contacts over the past four years.
