Holotron enables life-like VR and remote operation of humanoid robots. We use the possibly only way to ever accomplish this: by combining force-feedback and balance-feedback to the ultimate man-machine interface. We use a full-body exoskeleton, a strong robotic suit, to have the user feel and control all forces the avatar feels and exerts. To allow for realistic walking the user in the exoskeleton is also suspended in the air by a larger robot, the motion simulator which is moving the user always exactly like the avatar. Now, if the avatar is getting a push the user will feel the push and will have to use his own sense of balance and his legs to regain the balance of the avatar. The user can now do anything in VR or with the tele-robot what can be done in the real world: walking, jumping, swimming, flips, sommersaults, you name it. Some applications are VR gaming, VR training, decommissioning nuclear power plants, fire fighting, instant travel, offshore service and repairs, instant remote medical service, rehabilitation, strength augmentation with exoskeletons, and instant remote services. The technology goes back to a 2009 idea of Dr. Marcel Reese, and the resulting patent applications in 2010 and 2016.

My projects involved instrument development for a ssNMR / DNP spectrometer operating at 550 MHz / 330 GHz. It lead to a new, modular NMR probe design of unheard performance on the RF side, involving cryogenics, vacuum systems, and microwave optics. I designed, have made and had made hundreds of parts for this system from scratch and developed or improved digital control hardware and software. I contributed to reveling the atomic details of the influenza protein M2 to give an insight into the mechanism of influenza resistance to certain drugs. Other projects included pulsed X-Band EPR (DEER) and DNP studies.

I developed a computer method to increase the effective resolution of the INPHARMA method, to find the atomic details of drug-receptor complexes. Using the developed algorithm and math, the method was thousands of times faster than a brute force approach. In an effort of several research groups and industry I helped to develop a shuttle-DNP spectrometer to increase the sensitivity of liquid state NMR, for which I was awarded the Ernst Prize of the German Chemical Society.

My research involved the development of the INPHARAM method to determine the binding mode of small drug candidates to large receptors. The method allows to derive atomic details of the binding pocket and the binding compounds from low resolution receptor models without the need of isotope labelling. The evaluation of the experimental data required comparison with simulated spectra from molecular models. I created a large set of 25.000.000 possible binding models and developed the massive parallel program and algorithm to simulate the spectra on the largest computer in continental Europe. In comparison to first trial calculations by a collaborator, the final program was 6,000 times faster on a single core and 6,000,000 times faster in total. Together with the experimental data, acquired by a massive effort of other team members and collaborating pharmaceutical companies, this allowed to determine the binding mode of an important anti-cancer compound with tubulin, contradicting previous findings of another group which used different methods.
