Marcel's main client as a Freelancer was Tecom's Corporate Strategy team in Dubai, in the UAE. While there, he worked on initiatives in commercial real estate that included:- the strategic positioning of a new central business district in Dubai- the development of a corporate Business Development strategy in commercial real estate- a strategic analysis of the global media industry and emerging trends with a deep dive on gaming & e-sportsHe was also engaged in more creative elements such as the development of and strategic positioning & synergies for a media festival.

During his time with Strategy& Marcel spent time working on site in Saudi Arabia. The project he worked on aimed to assist a government entity determine and analyse opportunities to support the industrialization of Saudi Arabia. His work included conducting a review of the Saudi Arabian energy sector for market gaps and evaluating investment opportunities. On this basis, he also engaged with a leading, global Oil Field Services company in developing the financials and product offerings that were to form the basis for a Joint Venture in Saudi Arabia.

Marcel joined Schlumberger Business Consulting (SBC) as a Consultant in London after completing his MBA. While with SBC, projects took him to Denmark, France, Kuwait, Texas/USA and the UK. In this capacity Marcel:- Optimized the global logistical footprint of a leading, global Oil Field Services provider, reducing costs by >$10M annually- Conducted the financial analysis and modelling of an M&A deal in the Oil & Gas industry- Led a small team in conducting a strategic review of an NOC’s organizational behavior in the Gulf

Zürich Area, Switzerland

As part of the MBA program, Marcel completed a summer internship in Private Banking for Credit Suisse's Nordics Team. In addition to the internship's main objective of creating a new Business Development Strategy for Private Banking in Nordics, he also conducted a market review. He furthermore supported Relationship Managers on an ad hoc basis and completed the majority of the training required for the internal Relationship Manager qualification.

During the final rotation of Shell's Graduate Program, Marcel chose to deepen his understanding of finance. While it presented a steep learning curve, it also provided invaluable understanding of a company's finances and budget management. The role covered a variety of different recurring and ad hoc projects including:- Creating the 2012 Business Plan for Retail Nordics in cooperation with business stakeholders and senior leadership, identifying growth opportunities of 5%- Producing Latest Estimates of monthly and quarterly financial results, optimising the process leading to accuracy of 95% and improved understanding- Leading the Financial Analysis of a $500m Supply Chain Tender project for Nordics- Supporting senior leadership in monthly cost review sessions and preparation of Quarterly Business Reviews, identifying 20% cost savings versus budget- Providing Post Implementation Reviews of Marketing campaigns and Business cases

The second role of the Graduate Program was a project that aimed to move onshore customer service operations offshore. In this capacity Marcel covered two different roles, Process Lead and Training Lead, in addition to temporarily also covering the role of Project Coordinator during a paternity leave. During the course of the role Marcel:- Led the process of identifying & stabilising onshore activities before offshoring- Initiated streamlining of project tasks to improve efficiency, reducing time lag and contributing to the project coming in under budget- Introduced offshore training initiative, saving $20k+ without sacrificing quality while saving one FTE in onshore training- Managed two business analysts - Received a Special Recognition Award for contributions to a highly successful completion of the project

In Marcel's first role on Shell's Graduate Rotation Program he was both a Business Developer for B2B as well as a management assistant to Shell's CEO in Denmark. The combination of the two roles provided a unique insight into not only the granular aspects of a particular line of business, but also an understanding of the challenges and opportunities a company faces holistically. In this first role, Marcel:- Implemented a new segmentation strategy as part of a divestment, reducing portfolio by 99% to 100 key accounts- Led an initiative to identify new B2B customers in a saturated Danish market by thinking outside the box, leading to an increase in prospect portfolio of 10%- Successfully managed an outsourcing project for a B2B product line in Denmark eliminating HSSE exposure, meeting contractual obligations and cutting costs by 20%- Was the focal point for developments in Biofuels, Greenland hydrocarbon activity, and renewable energies in Denmark

As part of his MSc in International Business Economics, Marcel was required to complete a 3-6 month international internship, which he chose to do with Mercer in London, the UK. The internship was extended to a full year, during which time he:• Created an Online UK Manager’s Toolkit eliminating printing & distribution costs• Interviewed Graduate position applicants, & developed a Assessment Day Exercise for Graduate Recruitment• Coordinated Executive Talent Review Projects & established a link between Project Managers and ETM (data)• Confirmed and introduced a new HR Metrics package across Europe• Attended seminars on Working in Russia and Employee Benefits in China
